<< Kenyan Coast | Pemba, Tanzania>>
My final destination on the Kenyan Coast was Lamu.
Lamu is a pretty unspoilt Swahili town with narrow winding streets (too narrow for cars) and lots of Mosques.
Lamu is famous for it's intricate carved doorways (and donkeys).
Me and a future Lamu taxi.
The other thing that Lamu is famous for (apart from Doorways and Donkeys) is Dhows. I joined a full moon, overnight Dhow trip to a nearby island, which was loads of fun - except that the crew (and some of the passengers) were avid Bob Marley fans, which meant that we had quite a lot of a cappella Bob Marley, with improvised drum accompaniment which was ok to begin with but got tired pretty quickly.
We sailed out to a reef and did some snorkelling too. While we were snorkelling, the crew were fishing for our dinner.
Lamu was very nice (and I drank sooo much fresh juice (especially banana juice)), but after a few days there I was ready to leave. There's only so much to do there and there is a lot of hassle from the locals some of whom try very hard to rip you off.
And that's all from Kenya (which I'm pleased I visited after all). Next stop: Pemba, Tanzania for more scuba diving.
