Nakulabye Junior School

(Where I 'work')

Nakulabye Junior School in Kampala is in one of the poorest areas of the city. Most of the children have been affected by AIDS in some way (Uganda has a serious AIDS problem). Some are orphans as a result of the disease. The main thing that I am going to do for the school is to write a website, to help attract funds, but I'll also be teaching and marking.

Me with some of the children in the reception class. This is one of the 3 classrooms which actually have masonry walls.

Mr Patrick with another of the classes. This classroom is made from offcuts of wood.

Mr Jeseph with his class. With over 500 pupils at the school and just 10 classrooms (one for each year group), it can get quite cramped. the biggest class has more than 80 pupils who sit 4 or 5 to a bench.

Madame Justine and the reception class dancing for the camera. Despite the cramped conditions, all of the children are very happy.

Me marking some exam papers. It's Friday and everyone is tired by the end of the week (which is why one of the teachers is resting on the table behind).
